Adams 54 Bore tailed bullet mould.
This fine mould stamped Adams Patent was manufactured circa 1851 and designed for the Adams revolver which was initially produced without a rammer, the principal being that the cast tail of the bullet was pushed into a wad to retain the bullet in the cylinder. This did not always work! Bullets would sometimes fall out of the cylinder sometimes to the fatal embarrassment of the user and as a consequence of this the system was dropped and replaced with a rammer system to seat slightly oversized bullets tightly. Probably less moulds extant than revolvers! A fine mould.
